Preakness Race, also known as Preakness Stakes is a Horse race which is organized in May every year on Third Saturday at Pimlico Race Course which is in Baltimore, Maryland. This race is a Grade 1 race which covers a distance of 9.5 furlongs which is approx. 1,900 miles that too on dirt. Colts and Gelding have to carry 57 kg and fillies be 55 kg. It is considered to be second leg of Triple Crown and is organized two weeks after Kentucky Derby and 3 weeks before the Belmont Stakes.
Preakness Stakes' first run was organized in 1873. It was named by Maryland who was the former governor. This race is also termed as “The Run for the Black-Eyed Susans”, this was done because of the yellow flower which was altered so that it resembles Maryland's state flower which is placed around the neck of the winner.
On Saturday, May 16, 2015, 140th Preakness Stakes was organised and it was won by American Pharoah.
